Finca La Merced

Finca La Merced

Finca La Merced is at a lower altitude than Las Cruces, below Quinchia Viejo on the slopes of the mountains that extend down to the Rio Cauca.  It has been farmed for many years by two generations of the Sanchez family.  The care and attention they put into their crop shows in the excellent results for the 2023 main harvest.  This has an SCA score of 86.25 and shows great balance, with complex flavours of chocolate, plum, sugar and forest berries.

Finca La Merced

Finca la Merced is the home of the Sanchez family who settled in Quinchia over 40 years ago. Consuelo and Lucidia both took the path of teaching and welfare of young girls in the countryside, Carlos the older brother was in charge of working the land along with their late father Jesus Antonio Sanchez, growing coffee.  Now the farm is owned by the three of them and have excellent agricultural practices which is reflected in their coffee, with flavours of dried fruit, molasses and nougat.

Finca La Merced is a little oasis, the house and farm buildings built in guadua (botanical name guadua bambusa), and the land full of livestock as well as coffee plants.   Part of the house is used to accommodate vulnerable young girls, a project that is close to the heart of Consuelo, after years of learning about this issue first thing hand whilst working as a teacher in the countryside.

We have known the family for a long time – since our school days in fact - and we are delighted to start bringing their coffee to the UK this year.
